Individuals Chosen Due to their Dedicated Work
The Bluetooth SIG Hall of Fame inducts new individuals each year. These individuals have given much of their time and commitment in the development, marketing, and promotion of Bluetooth wireless technology. Without each of these individuals, Bluetooth wireless technology would not be the great success it is today.
2008 Inductees
Simon Ellis
- 1983 - BSC EE City University, London, UK
- Worked at Intel in Santa Clara since 1988
- Involved in the formation of the Bluetooth SIG
- The first chair of the Bluetooth marketing team who;
Launched the Bluetooth SIG in 1998
Worked towards worldwide logo/name creation and registration
Grew membership and held developer conferences
Acted as press/analyst spokesperson
- Member of Bluetooth SIG board of directors until 2003
- Currently Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation
Siegfried Lehmann
- Involved with Bluetooth Wireless Technology at CETECOM GmbH, Germany since 12/1998
- Initial Bluetooth Test Specification and TTCN development in 1999
- Senior Consultant in Bluetooth Qualification Projects since 2000
- Moved to CETECOM Inc., USA in 2002 as BQTF Manager
- Since 2007, Director Wireless Technologies at CETECOM, Inc. responsible for Testing and Certification of products implementing Bluetooth technology, WiFi and WiMAX
- Member of BTAB and BTI working groups since 2002
- Chaired the BTI working group 2005/1 - 2007-1
- Recognized as BQE since 11/2006
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Gerhardt Mercator University, Germany
- Research in Audio Coding and Psychoacoustics
Itsuo Sakai
- Joined TF5 (Japanese Regulatory Task Force) of Regulatory WG of Bluetooth SIG Toshiba in 1998
- Solved some Japanese regulatory issue together with Dr. Hontscha and other members in Regulatory WG of Bluetooth SIG
- Formed 'Bluetooth Promotion Committee' in MCPC (Mobile Computing Promotion Consortium in Japan) in 2000
- Served as chairman for the 'Bluetooth Promotion Committee' in MCPC since 2000
- First approved Asian BQB (BQE) in 2001
- Joined BTQ Corporation, a Toshiba subsidiary, in order to propagate Bluetooth wireless technology in Japan since 2002
- Master of Engineering Degree in Electronics from Nagoya University in Japan

Terry Bourk

Örjan Johansson

- While at Ericsson, managed the short link technology code named "MC link," which laid the ground work for Bluetooth wireless technology
- Signed majority of the SIG's first 1,500 members
- Started the department that worked with short link technology within Ericsson
- Formed the Ericsson Bluetooth technology company (Ericsson Technology Licensing)
- Driving force in creating the Bluetooh SIG and its unique IP policy
- First Ericsson Board of Directors member
- One of the most visionary persons within the SIG
- Former CEO and member of the Board of Directors at Anoto
Brian Redding

- Involved with Bluetooth wireless technology from inception
- Participated in the Software Working Group contributing in the telephony task force, which authored the headset, dialup networking, fax, cordless telephony and intercom profiles
- As chairman of BARB and BQRB, was instrumental in achieving major milestones (all Specification and PRD versions)
- His common sense logic and knowledge of how a standard should operate has helped shape Bluetooth technology
- Instrumental in developing the new Qualification Policy
- B.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University

James Collier

- Founder and CTO of CSR, the first company to embed an entire Bluetooth technology system into a single chip
- Led the technical team that first demonstrated RF could be implemented in a CMOS process, dramatically reducing the cost of Bluetooth technology chip development
- Continues to lead R&D at CSR
- Board member for CSR
- Degree in Physics from Oxford University
- Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Institute of Electrical Engineers
Anders Edlund

- At Ericsson, lead the initial marketing activities for Bluetooth technology
- Played a key role in the forming of the Bluetooth SIG
- Instrumental in the naming and trademarking of the technology
- Developed and marketed the eight initial user scenarios
- Joined the Bluetooth SIG in August 2002
- Brought the goal of Bluetooth technology becoming a global consumer technology to fruition
- Marketing Director for the Bluetooth SIG in EMEA
- Degree in Electrical Engineering from Angstromskolan, Sweden
- Completed further work in the fields of satellite communication and computing science
Jaap Haartsen

- M.S. and Ph.D. degrees with honors in electrical engineering from the Delft University of Technology
- Joined Ericsson in 1991 in the US before moving to the Sweden office
- In 1994, laid the foundation for what would later become Bluetooth wireless technology
- Introduced the concepts of piconet and scatternet
- Served as chairman of the air protocol specification group
- Involved in the first version of the Bluetooth technology radio and baseband specifications
- Adjunct professor at Twente University of Technology in the Netherlands
- Authored numerous papers and holds more than 60 patents
Waldemar Hontscha

- Involved in Bluetooth technology since joining Nokia in 1998
- Founding member of the Bluetooth Qualification Review Board (BQRB)
- Served as chairman for the BQRB and the Bluetooth Regulatory Committee
- Designed and developed the first two releases of the Qualification Program
- Created the regulatory database
- Responsible for the harmonization of the Bluetooth technology spectrum in Japan, China and numerous countries worldwide
- Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics and a stay at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel
Jim Kardach

- Instrumental in the formation of the Bluetooth SIG
- Acted as chairman of the early SIG organization
- Entered the wireless arena in 1997 by starting a small program he codenamed “Bluetooth”
- Documented the humorous trials of naming Bluetooth technology, which involved payback from Simon Ellis and harsh words for Jan Ahrenbring of Ericsson (Incisor, January 2006)
- Principal Engineer within the Intel Mobile Product’s Group
- Holds more than 40 patents from his 20 year career at Intel
- B.S. degree in EE from Fresno State University
