Test Your Product

The Bluetooth SIG offers tools and possibilities for product developers to test their Bluetooth products. These products and services are extremely helpful during development, enabling easy debugging, improving product interoperability and ensuring an easy qualification process, saving both time and money.

Bluetooth SIG Tools and Resources

Profile Tuning Suite (PTS)

The Profile Tuning Suite (PTS) is a powerful, PC-based, black-box testing tool developed by the Bluetooth SIG to support members with product development, testing and qualification processes. The PTS automates protocol and profile testing producing more accurate, higher quality test results and improved interoperability for your products. The PTS is mandated for all Bluetooth enabled products.

Testing Events

The Bluetooth SIG holds three UnPlugFest (UPF) testing events annually - one in each region. UPFs sole purpose is to improve the interoperability of all Bluetooth devices. Unreleased and unannounced products and prototypes are tested in this confidential forum.

The SIG also supports special Interoperability (IOP) events. These periodic interoperability testing events help SIG members verify new specifications during the prototyping phase and foster interoperability in usage scenarios where additional attention is requested by members.

External Resources

Recognized Test Equipment

The SIG lists manufacturers that provides validated Bluetooth test systems as Recognized Test Equipment. Validated Bluetooth test systems are for test systems which have met the requirements of the Test System Activation Process and are indicated within the approved Test Case Reference list as required for use in qualification.

BQTFs and BRTFs

A Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility (BQTF) and a Bluetooth Recognized Test Facilities (BRTF) are testing laboratories recognized by the Bluetooth SIG as being competent to perform those Bluetooth qualification RF tests, Protocol and Profile Conformance tests and Profile Interoperability tests identified as "Category A and at or below the Host Controller Interface (HCI) level" within the Test Case Reference List (TCRL). The main difference between a BQTF and a BRTF is that the BQTF can provide testing to all members where the BRTF only does testing for one's own company.

BQEs

Bluetooth Qualification Experts (BQEs) are qualification expert individuals that are recognized by the Bluetooth SIG to provide qualification-related services.

Interoperability

The Bluetooth SIG defines Bluetooth wireless interoperability as "the ability for an end user to make two or more devices perform an expected action based on their supported Bluetooth features independent of the manufacturer of the device."

Interoperability issues lead to incompatibilities between devices that often cannot be resolved once they reach the marketplace. Interoperability is elemental to all Bluetooth technology solutions.

  • For consumers, interoperability means that Bluetooth enabled products work together in the expected way.
  • For developers, interoperability means that Bluetooth technology solutions support compatible profiles and roles.
  • For manufacturers, interoperability can mean reduced product development costs.
